Leaving the Dark City

For a little excursion into the Maelstrom.

My LGS is having an escalation style paint and play league. Three "Rounds" capped off with tournaments between each. 500, 750, and 1000 points.

1-3 Troops (you must take at least one troop choice)
0-1 Elite
0-1 Fast attack
0-1 Heavy support
0-1 "swing" slot (you can use this to take an additional Elite, Fast, Troop, or Heavy choice)

-Armies are not required to take mandatory choices, but all other unit restrictions apply.
-With the exception of Troops and Swarms, no model may have more than 2 wounds.
-Psykers may be chosen, but may not use any power requiring a psychic test.
-No Independent Special Characters. Named special characters that are upgrades to units may be taken provided they follow all the rules provided under this section, but they will cost you an additional HQ slot.

Some Thoughts

So I was thinking the other day as I assembled a Apocalypse Battleship for a club mate. There has to be tons of people out there that don't have the time, patience, skill, etc to build and convert their armies. I on the other hand generally have nothing but time and building/conversion is my favorite part of the hobby.

Now I know there are plenty of commission builders/painters out there, (including a few in the local area) and I can't paint for shit. But I figure that I could probably get a little business going just to supplement my income a little. A person could either send me the stuff they've already built, give it to me in person (if they're local) or have me buy it from my LGS and ship it out to them when done. I could even try and team up with a painter so whole armies could get done.

What do you all think? Would there be an interest in this?

If I get enough positive responses I'll post up a price guide and get the show on the road.

Other goings on

You may noticed the big banner at the top of my page for the Pay It Forward Giveaway. My new buddy over at Minature Wargame Conversions has been running this a few months now and I think its a great idea. All you have to do to enter is become a follower of his blog. Each month the contest has gotten bigger and better. The next drawing  is April 7th and the prize pool is something amazing, with just about 15 items to win. All the prizes have been donated by our fellow wargamers and some webstores. I know I will be donating to the May drawing and I hope some of you out there do the same. Its a great way to plug your site, club, or just feel good about giving back to the gaming community. Just click the banner to check it out.

And while your there check out some of his wonderful conversion work. Nurgle lovers will be in a pusfilled heaven checking out some of his GS blightworks.

I know, I know

I've been a bit lazy of late in updating the blog. Real life has been draining all my motivation to get work done. Not to mention I've not been able to purchuse any new models to build for my Dark Eldar. I do have a bunch of Skaven to build, and could start posting pics of that stuff if your interested in it. I've always had it in mind to use this as a way of getting all my work out there but then when I started it, I ened up dedicating it the Dark Ones. Leave a comment with your thoughts.

ToyWiz Battles Round 2

Round 2 of this past weekends tournament I was paired against a buddy of mine from the Ordo Malleus (and yet another BA player) Sgt Brisbane. You may know him from his blog Sons of Thunder.

The mission was Kill Point with Spearhead deployment and this is how we started it off.
He got first turn but his shooting did little to stop my advance. On my turn I took both Demolisher cannons off his battle tanks and immobilized one of his Razorbacks.
On his turn 2 he got his unit of Vangaurd vets in but they scattered away from my units and were out of range to assault. He also got in a unit of assault troops with libby attached but they ended up in no-mans land out side of range to due much this turn. He outflanked a Baal and it came in in my deployment zone.
On my turn I got in everything. So my Bloodbrides headed for terrain to wait for his assault troops to get in range, while my Reavers and Talos went tank hunting. On this turn I took out both Vindicators and immobilized his other Razorback
My warriors and Wychs unloaded on the Vanguard vets before the Wychs charged in and killed them.
My Incubi and Truborn (with Duke) held up the Assault squad for a couple turns while my raiders took the assault cannon off the Baal.
His other Baal can unit of Assault troops came in on the other side. My Talos charged into one of his tactical squads that had lost their transport to my reavers. The Talos suffered a couple woulds but killed off the entire unit.
The Talos decided to head for the Baal. And between the Haywire blaster and close combat yet another tank was gone. Warriors held up the unit of assault marines on that side until my Bloodbrides could come mop up.
My last raider with warriors inside killed off the last of the assault troops on this side, with only the libby surviving.
Unfortunately the game ended on turn 5. And while I had done a number on his army, he had taken down most of my paper airplanes and my Bloodbrides had yet to finish of the assault squad they were locked in combat with. I ended up losing 10-8 in a match that if it had lasted just one turn more would have been 11-10 in my favor. But we had fun in what can only be described as a total bloodbath of a game.

Rematch next Vets Night.

On turn 4 I get in the 2 Reaver Units

I dont have a pic but finally on turn five I get my Talos in. He smashes a few guys before dieing. Ive been tabled.

I has a Paint Brush

And I knows how to use it.

Well sorta. I finally decided to start working on painting my Raider. Ive got the hull mostly done, there are still all the details as well as the deck plates but its coming along nicely IMO.
